How do the ingredients of the drug work?

The combination of several salts draws a lot of water into the intestines in a short time, thus achieving thorough drainage and defecation.

What speaks against an application?

- Hypersensitivity to the ingredients
- Intestinal obstruction
- Narrowing in the digestive tract, e.g. in the esophagus, stomach or in the small or large intestine
- Gastric or intestinal perforation or risk of perforation
- Toxic megacolon (dangerous widening of the colon, which is associated with fever etc. and can occur as a complication, e.g. in inflammatory bowel diseases such as ulcerative colitis)
- Inflammatory bowel diseases such as:
- Ulcerative colitis
- Crohn's disease

What age group do you need to consider?
- Infants and young children under the age of 2 years: The medicine must not be used.
- Adolescents from 12 years of age and adults: The drug should not be used in this group as a rule. There are preparations that are more suitable in terms of the strength of the active ingredient and/or dosage form.

What about pregnancy and lactation?
- Pregnancy: consult your doctor. Various considerations play a role in whether and how the drug can be used during pregnancy.
- Breast-feeding: consult your doctor or pharmacist. He will examine your particular starting position and advise you accordingly as to whether and how you can continue breastfeeding.

If you have been prescribed the drug despite a contraindication, talk to your doctor or pharmacist. The therapeutic benefit can be higher than the risk that the use entails in the event of a contraindication.

Side effects

What adverse effects may occur?

- Gastrointestinal problems such as:
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Diarrhea
- Bloating
- Feeling of fullness
- Stomach pain
- Local irritation of the intestinal mucosa, especially at the anus

If you notice any discomfort or changes during treatment, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

For the information at this point, side effects are primarily taken into account that occur in at least one in 1,000 patients treated.

Hints

What should you consider?
- Only use laxative medicines for short periods without medical advice. Long-term use may lead to chronic constipation and/or other problems. If you are unsuccessful after a short period of use, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
- Caution: Laxatives are not suitable for weight loss.
- Be careful if you are allergic to the sweetener saccharin (E number E 954)!
- Be careful if you have an intolerance to fructose (fruit sugar). If you have to follow a diabetic diet, you should consider the sugar content.
- There may be medicines with which interactions occur. You should therefore generally tell your doctor or pharmacist about any other medicine you are already using before starting treatment with a new medicine. This also applies to medicines that you buy yourself, use only occasionally or have been using for some time.

Contraindications

• The drug must not be taken,
  • if your child is allergic (hypersensitive) to the active substances or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.
  • if there is a narrowing of the bowel or a bowel obstruction.
  • if there is a risk of intestinal perforation
  • if you have a severe inflammatory bowel disease (ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease, toxic megacolon)

dosage

• Always give your child this medicine exactly as described or as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
• Unless otherwise prescribed by the doctor, the usual dose is:
  • At the beginning of treatment, children aged 2 to 6 years usually take the contents of 1 sachet as a daily dose, children aged 7 to 11 years take the contents of 2 sachets. In the further course of therapy, the daily dose should be increased or decreased as needed to ensure regular bowel movements with soft stools. Dose increases, if necessary, should be made every other day. Normally, the maximum daily dose required is no more than 4 sachets.
  • It is not necessary to drink the solution all at once. If your child prefers, half the solution can be taken in the morning and half in the evening.
  • If your child has very soft stools or diarrhea, reduce the dose to 1 sachet (if 2 or more sachets are taken per day) or skip 1 daily dose (if only 1 sachet is taken per day).

 

• Duration of treatment
  • The treatment of children with chronic constipation should be carried out over a longer period of time, at least 6 - 12 months.

 

• If your child forgets to take a dose
  • Do not take a double dose at once, but continue treatment as described.

 

• If your child stops taking it
  • Do not interrupt or stop your child's treatment without talking to your doctor.

 

• If you have any further questions on the use of the medicine, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

Revenue

• To prepare the ready-to-use solution, dissolve the contents of one sachet in 62.5 ml of water (1/4 glass). Stir until the powder is completely dissolved and the solution is clear or slightly cloudy and give to your child to drink.
• The daily dose (total amount of solution) can be prepared in advance and kept sealed in the refrigerator for a period of up to 24 hours.
• Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have the impression that the effect is too strong or too weak.

Patient notes

• Warnings and Precautions
  • Symptoms that indicate a shift in the fluid and electrolyte balance, e.g. edema, shortness of breath, increasing tiredness, lack of water (dehydration) and heart failure have been reported in adults while taking medicines containing macrogol. If any of these side effects occur, discontinue use immediately and contact a doctor.

Pregnancy

• The drug can be taken during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
