Field of use

• Loperamide is a remedy for diarrhea.
• For the symptomatic treatment of acute diarrhea for adults and children from the age of 12, provided no causal therapy is available.
• Treatment with Loperamide that goes beyond 2 days may only be carried out under medical prescription and monitoring.

Contradictions

• The medicine must not be taken
  • if you are hypersensitive (allergic) against Loperamide hydrochloride or one of the other components.
  • of children under the age of 12.
  • if you are avoiding conditions in which a slowdown of the intestinal activity is to be slowed down, e.g. B. suffer when the body, constipation and intestinal closure suffer.
  • if you suffer from diarrhea, which are associated with fever and/or bloody stool.
  • if you suffer from diarrhea during or after taking antibiotics (pseudomembranous [Antibiotika-assoziierte] colitis).
  • if you suffer from chronic diarrhea. (These diseases may only be treated with Loperamide in accordance with the medical prescription.)
  • if you suffer from an acute thrust of ulcerative colitis (ulcers in large intestine).
• Children under 2 years of age must not be treated with loperamide-containing medicines, such as this.

dosage

• Always take the medicine exactly according to the instruction.
• Please ask your doctor or pharmacist if you are not quite sure.
• Unless otherwise prescribed by the doctor, the usual dose is:
  • Adult
    • First dose: 2 tablets (corresponding to 4 mg loperamide hydrochloride)
    • Repetition dose: 1 tablet (corresponding to 2 mg loperamide hydrochloride)
    • Daily maximum dose: 6 tablets (corresponding to 12mg loperamide hydrochloride)
  • Young people aged 12 and over
    • First dose: 1 tablet (corresponding to 2 mg loperamide hydrochloride)
    • Repetition dose: 1 tablet (corresponding to 2 mg loperamide hydrochloride)
    • Daily maximum dose: 4 tablets (corresponding to 8 mg loperamide hydrochloride)
  • At the beginning of the treatment of acute diarrhea, the first dose is taken.
  • After that, the repetition dose should be taken after each unshaped chair.
  • The recommended daily maximum dose must not be exceeded.
• Children under 12 years:
  • Medicines with a high active ingredient content are not suitable for children under the age of 12. According to the medical prescription, other forms of dosage are available for this

• Duration of the application:
  • Do not take the medicine without a medical advice for more than 2 days.
  • If the diarrhea continues to exist after 2 days of treatment, the medicine must be discontinued and a doctor must be consulted.
  • Treatment with medicinal products containing Loperamide may only be carried out under medical prescription and monitoring.

• Please speak to your doctor or pharmacist if you have the impression that the effect of the Arzneantrant is too strong or too weak.

• If you have taken a larger amount than you should
  • If possible, see a doctor as soon as possible, especially if you feel unusual symptoms (see information for the doctor).
  • Informations for the doctor:
    • The sign of overdosing are constipation, urine preservation, intestinal obstruction and symptoms of the central nervous system (neurotoxicity) such as cramps, lack of participation (apathy), sleepiness (somnolence), increased and involuntary muscle movements (choreoathetosis), disturbance of the coordination of movement sequences (ataxia) or reduction in Breathing (respiratory depression).
    • The treatment depends on the overdose symptoms and the clinical picture.
    • Under medical observation, the opioid antagonist naloxone can be used as an antidote. Since Loperamide has a longer duration of action than naloxone, the repeated administration of naloxone can be displayed. The patient should therefore be monitored closely for at least 48 hours in order to recognize a possible (again) occurrence of overdose symptoms.
    • In order to remove existing residues of active ingredients in the stomach, a gastric rinse may be carried out.

• If you have forgotten the intake
  • Do not take the double dose if you have forgotten the prior intake.
  • If you have any further questions about the application of the drug, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

Taking

• Please take the tablets with sufficient liquid (preferably a glass of water).

• What should be taken into account in children?
  • Children under 2 years of age must not with pharmaceuticals containing Loperamide, such as B. this medicine can be treated.
  • Children between the ages of 2 and 12 may only be treated with medicinal medicines contained in the medical prescription. Due to the high active ingredient content, the preparation is not suitable for this age group. According to the medical regulation, other forms of dosage are available for this.
• Particular caution when taking it is required:
  • if you have AIDS and take the medicine for diarrhea treatment. At the first signs of a body that has been driven out, you should end the take of the drug and visit your doctor. There are individual reports on a severe inflammatory expansion of the colon (toxic megacolone) in AIDS patients. • Wateriness and operating machines:
  • In the event of diarrhea or as a result of taking the drug, fatigue, dizziness and sleepiness can occur. Therefore, caution is advised in road traffic or working with machines.

Pregnancy

• Ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking/using all drugs.
• Swangerand:
  • Even if with a limited number of women (approx. 800) who take the active ingredient of the drug during pregnancy, no clear indications of a fruit -damaging effect were found, you should not use the medicine during pregnancy.
• Breastfeeding
  • Since small amounts of the active ingredient can convert into breast milk, you should not use the medicine during breastfeeding.
