What age group do you need to consider?
- Children under 6 years of age: The medicine should not normally be used in this age group.

What about pregnancy and lactation?
- Pregnancy: According to current knowledge, the medicine has no harmful effects on the development of your child or the birth.

Field of use

• The medicine contains folic acid, a B vitamin that is needed for normal blood formation.
• It can be used for
• the treatment
  • folic acid deficiency (e.g. anemia due to folic acid deficiency) in adults, children (from 6 years of age) and adolescents, confirmed by a blood test including checking vitamin B₁₂levels.
• the prevention
  • a lack of folic acid in patients taking medicines that lower the levels of folic acid in the blood.
  • of neural tube defects in the unborn child (such as spina bifida, a congenital abnormality of the spine), in women trying to conceive and who are known to be at risk.

Contraindications

• Folic acid should not be taken,
  • if you are allergic to folic acid or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.

dosage

• Always take this medicine exactly as described or as your doctor or pharmacist has told you.
• Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
• Treatment of folic acid deficiency
  • Adult
    • The recommended dose is 5 mg daily for 3 to 4 months and can be increased.
  • Use in children and adolescents
    • The medicine should not be used in children under 6 years of age.
  • To treat anemia caused by folic acid deficiency: The recommended dose is 5 mg daily for 4 months.
  • Seniors and patients with renal or hepatic impairment
    • Take the same dose as for healthy adults if you have kidney or liver problems.
• Prevention of drug-induced folic acid deficiency
  • The recommended dose is 1-5 mg daily or 5 mg once a week.
  • For methotrexate treatment, you should take the dose 24 hours after taking the methotrexate.
• Prevention of neural tube defects in the unborn child in women known to be at risk
  • The recommended dose is 5 mg daily from at least 4 weeks before conception until at least 12 weeks after.

• Duration of treatment
  • The duration of treatment depends on the cause of the folic acid deficiency and the success of the treatment.

• If you take more than you should
  • It is unlikely that this medicine will cause harm if you take more than you should or if a child accidentally takes this medicine and medical attention is not needed.
  • If you are concerned, ask your doctor or nearest hospital for advice.

• If you forget to take a dose
  • If you forget to take a pill, take one as soon as you remember unless it is almost time for your next dose. Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose.

• If you have any further questions on the use of this medicine, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

    • if you are a healthy pregnant woman at no risk of having a baby with a neural tube defect. In this case, your doctor will prescribe you a product with a lower amount of folic acid.

    • The medicine should not be used in children under 6 years of age.

  • This medicine is not known to affect the ability to drive or use machines.
