Instructions for use for RENACET 950 mg film -coated tablets, 100 pcs

Field of use

  • The preparation binds phosphate from food and allows it to be excreted in the stool.
  • It is used to reduce elevated phosphate levels in the blood.
  • It is used for chronic kidney failure with dialysis indicated.

Active ingredients / ingredients / ingredients

Contraindications

  • The preparation must not be taken:
    • if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to calcium acetate or any of the other ingredients,
    • with low phosphate concentrations in the blood,
    • with increased calcium concentrations in the blood,
    • with increased excretion of calcium in the urine associated with the occurrence of calcium-containing kidney stones,
    • for decalcifying tumors and secondary ulcers in the bones (metastases in bone tissue),
    • in severe kidney failure without dialysis treatment,
    • in case of constipation,
    • with known colon strictures,
    • in the case of abnormal bone decalcification as a result of long periods of lack of exercise (lying down, wheelchair).

dosage

  • Always take the preparation exactly as your doctor has told you. Please ask your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
  • Unless otherwise prescribed by the doctor, the usual dose is:
    • Adult:
      • for breakfast: ½-1 film-coated tablets
      • with a snack: ½-1 film-coated tablets
      • with the main meal: 1-3 film-coated tablets
      • for dinner: 1-2 film-coated tablets
  • The dosage varies from patient to patient. Since the preparation binds the phosphate from food, the number of film-coated tablets must be adjusted according to the amount of food taken (portion size) and thus the amount of phosphate taken. (For example, 2 film-coated tablets for breakfast with just a jam sandwich would lead to an excess of calcium and thus to a risk of an increase in the calcium level in the blood. On the other hand, just 1 film-coated tablet with a rich lunch may be too little to absorb the larger amount of phosphate absorbed with the main meal bind (i.e. not sufficiently effective).
  • Please adhere to the application instructions, otherwise the product may not work as expected!

  • If you have taken more than you should
    • Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have taken more than what is stated in this leaflet or what was prescribed by your doctor.

  • If you forget to take it
    • Do not take a double dose if you forget to take the previous dose. Continue treatment as directed by your doctor.

  • If you stop taking it or stop taking it prematurely
    • Please do not change the dosage or stop treatment without talking to your doctor first.

Intake

  • The film-coated tablets should be taken during or immediately after a meal.
  • The tablets must be swallowed whole and with a little liquid.

Patient information

  • Particular caution is required when taking the drug
    • Therapy with the preparation requires frequent monitoring of calcium and phosphate levels in the blood. In order to avoid an increase in the calcium level in the blood beyond the normal range, further calcium therapy (e.g. calcium as a dietary supplement) should only be carried out after consultation with the treating doctor.

  • Ability to drive and use machines
    • The preparation has no influence on the ability to drive or use machines.

Pregnancy

  • Before taking any medicines, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice.
  • However, the likelihood of hypercalcemia is increased in pregnant women who take calcium and vitamin D at the same time.

Hints

For information about risks and side effects, read the package leaflet and ask your doctor or pharmacist.
