How does the ingredient of the medicine work?

The medicine consists of digestive enzymes that are obtained from the pancreas of pigs. These are very similar to the naturally occurring digestive enzymes in the human gastrointestinal tract and mingle with the cheeky porridge after taking the stomach and intestine. There you help to crush the food by splitting the fats, proteins and carbohydrates into smaller units. In this way, the digestion of the food is supported. These are then absorbed into the blood or lymph and distributed via these transport routes into the cells of the individual tissues.

  • It contains an enzyme mixture, which is called pancreatic powder.
  • Pancreas powder is also called pancreatin. It supports digestion. The enzymes are obtained from pancreas.
  • The preparation contains small gastric -resistant microfilm tablets, which slowly relieve the pancreatic powder into the intestine.
• What this preparation is used for
  • It is used to treat exocrine pancreatic insufficiency.
  • The pancreas does not produce enough enzymes to digest food.
  • The medicine can be used in children, adolescents and adults.
  • The dosage instructions for the age groups are explained in the "dosage" category.
  • Treatment with this preparation improves the symptoms of exocrine pancreatic insufficiency, including stool consistency (e.g. greasy chair), abdominal pain, flatulence and stool frequency (diarrhea or constipation).

Contradictions

• The preparation must not be taken,
  • if you are allergic to pancreatinine or one of the other components of this drug.

dosage

• Always take this medicine exactly as described or follow your doctor or pharmacist. Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
• Your dosage is given in "Lipase units". Lipase is one of the enzymes in the pancreatic powder. Various strengths of this drug contain different amounts of lipase. Always follow the instructions of your doctor how much you should take. Your doctor determines the right dose for you.
• This is based on:
  • the severity of their illness
  • Their weight
  • Their diet
  • the fat content in your chair
• If you continue to have a fat stool or other stomach or intestinal complaints (gastrointestinal symptome), speak to your doctor because your dosage may have to be adjusted.
• How much is to be taken
  • Children
    • The strength of this drug may not be suitable for initiating therapy in children, depending on the age and weight of the child. The required dose for a child should be determined by the doctor with dosage forms that contain fewer lipase units (e.g. 10,000 lipase units). As soon as the dose has been determined per meal, this strength of the drug can be used in children.
    • The usual initial dose for children under the age of 4 is 1,000 lipase units per kilogram of body weight per meal.
    • The usual initial dose for children from 4 years is 500 lipase units per kilogram of body weight per meal.
  • Young people and adults
    • The weight-based enzyme dose should begin in adolescents and adults with 500 lipase units per kilogram of body weight per meal.
    • The usual dose for a meal is between 25,000 and 80,000 lipase units.
    • The usual dose for a snack is half of the dose for a meal.
  • For all ages
    • Your daily total dose should not exceed 2,500 lipase units per meal per kilogram per meal, or 10,000 lipase units per kilogram of body weight per day or 4,000 lipase units per gram of fat intake.

 

• If you have taken a larger amount than you should
  • Drink a lot of water and speak to your doctor or pharmacist. Very high doses of pancreatic powder have sometimes caused an increase in uric acid in blood (hyperuricaemia) and urine (hyperuricosuria).

 

• If you have forgotten the intake
  • Take the next dose with the next meal as usual. Do not try to compensate for the forgotten dose.

 

• If you cancel the intake
  • Do not break off without having spoken to your doctor beforehand. Many patients have to take the medicine for life.

Taking

• When is the preparation to be taken
  • Always take this medicine during or immediately after a meal or a snack. This allows the enzymes to mix thoroughly with the food and digest them while it goes through the intestine.
• How to take the preparation
  • It should always be taken together with a meal or a snack.
  • As a whole, the capsules should be swallowed with sufficient liquid.
  • Do not crush or chew the capsules, as this can lead to irritation in the mouth or that can change the mode of action in your body.
  • If it is difficult for you to swallow the capsules, open them carefully and take the microfilm tablets contained with sufficient liquid.
  • Mix in non-acid food or liquid, crush or chew the microfilm tablets can lead to irritation in the mouth or change the mode of action in your body.
  • Do not keep the capsules or their contents in your mouth. Make sure that the medicine is swallowed completely and no microfilm tablets remain in your mouth.

  • Patients with cystic fibrosis
    • In patients with cystic fibrosis, a rare bowel disease called "fibrosing colonopathy" was reported when taking high-dose pancreatic powder products, in which their intestine is narrowed. Inform your doctor if you suffer from cystic fibrosis and take more than 10,000 lipase units per kilogram of body weight per day and have unusual abdominal difficulties or changes in abdominal symptoms. The dosage of lipase units is explained in the "dosage" category.
  • Severe allergic reaction
    • When an allergic reaction occurs, end your treatment and speak to your doctor. Ona allergic reaction could contain itching, hives or rash. In rare cases, a serious allergic reaction with a feeling of warmth, dizziness and fainting and suspicion of breathing can occur.
    • These are symptoms of a severe, possibly life -threatening state that is referred to as the "anaphylactic shock". If this is the case, you will immediately call medical help.
    • Before taking your doctor, speak if you are allergic against pig proteins.
  • Review in the mouth
    • Pain in the mouth, irritation (stomatitis), bleeding and ulcer formation in the mouth can occur if the capsules were chewed and/or kept in the mouth for too long.
    • Rinsing the mouth and drinking a glass of water can help when the mouth appears first.
    • This preparation can only be spread on certain foods.

 

• Wateriness and ability to operate machines
  • The medicine has no effect on the traffic and operating machines.

• If you are pregnant or breastfeed, or if you suspect that you are pregnant or intend to become pregnant, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this drug.

Hints

Miscellaneous

- In the event of an inherited metabolic disease with the formation of tough mucus (cystic fibrosis), the formation of narrowing in the area of the hip and appendix and the large intestine has been described in individual cases after taking high amounts of the drug.
- In the case of cystic fibrosis, an increased uric acid excretion in the urine can occur, especially with the intake of high amounts of the drug. Therefore, in this case, uric acid excretion in the urine should be checked to avoid the formation of uric acid stones.
- The formation of narrowing in the gastrointestinal channel is known difficulties in cystic fibrosis. If there are similar symptoms as in the case of an intestinal obstruction (very severe abdominal pain, no bowel movements), the possibility of intestinal narrowing should also be considered.
