Field of use

• The drug contains the active ingredient omeprazole. It belongs to a group of drugs called "proton pump inhibitors". These work by reducing the amount of acid that produces their stomach.
• The medicine is used
  • in adults for brief treatment of reflux complaints (e.g. heartburn, acid return).
  • Reflux is the backflow of acid from the stomach into the esophagus that can ignite and cause pain. This can lead to signs of illness such as a burning pain rising to the throat in the chest (heartburn) and an acidic taste in the mouth (acid resolution).
  • It may be necessary to take Omeprazole 2 - 3 consecutive days in order to achieve an improvement in the symptoms.

Contradictions

• Omeprazole must not be taken
  • if you are allergic to omeprazole or one of the other components of this drug,
  • if you are allergic to medicinal products that contain other proton pump inhibitors (e.g. pantoprazole, lansoprazole, ravenprazole, esomeprazole),
  • if you take a medicine that contains Nelfinavir (against HIV infection).
• If you are not sure, speak to your doctor or pharmacist before taking it.

dosage

• Always take this medicine exactly as described or exactly after the agreement made with your doctor or pharmacist. Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
• The usual dose is:
  • Adult
    • 1 gastrointestinal tablet (corresponding to 20 mg omeprazole) once a day over 14 days.
    • Find your doctor if you are not symptom -free after this period.
    • It may be necessary to take Omeprazole 2 - 3 consecutive days in order to achieve an improvement in the symptoms.
  • Older patients
    • A dose adjustment in older patients is not required.
  • Patients with restricted kidney function
    • A dose adjustment in patients with restricted kidney function is not required.
  • Patients with limited liver function
    • Please speak to your doctor. Patients with limited liver function should be advised by a doctor before taking Omeprazole.

 

• If you have taken a larger amount than you should
  • If you have taken a larger amount of omeprazole than recommended, speak to your doctor or pharmacist immediately.

 

• If you have forgotten the intake
  • If you have forgotten taking a dose, take it as soon as you think about it. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, leave out the forgotten dose. Do not take the double amount to compensate for the forgotten dose.

 

• If you have any further questions about the application of this medicine, please contact your doctor or pharmacist.

Taking

• The tablet must not be shared.
• Take Omeprazole Unzunkaut as a whole together with sufficient liquid (e.g. a glass of water) before a meal (breakfast or dinner) on an empty stomach.
• Asked should be taken at the same time if possible.

Patient information

• Warnings and Precautions
  • Do not take Omeprazole for more than 14 days without asking your doctor. If your symptoms do not let up or if your symptoms aggravate, see your doctor.
  • Omeprazole can cover the signs of other diseases. Therefore, speak to your doctor immediately if one of the following information applies to you before or while taking Omeprazole:
    • For no obvious reason they lose much weight and have problems swallowing,
    • You get abdominal pain or digestive disorders,
    • They vomit food or blood,
    • They outshine black stool (blood in bowel movements),
    • They suffer from severe or continuous diarrhea. Omeprazole is associated with a slight increase in contagious diarrhea.
    • They used to have a stomach ulcer or an operation in the gastrointestinal area,
    • You will receive consistent, symptomatic treatment of digestive disorders or heartburn over 4 or more weeks,
    • They have been suffering from digestive disorders or heartburn for 4 or more weeks,
    • You have jaundice or severe liver disease,
    • They are over 55 years old and new or recently changed symptoms occur.
  • Patients should not take omeprazole for prevention.
  • Please inform your doctor about the treatment with Omeprazole
    • if you have a gastrointestinal investigation (breath test) planned, as this may falsify the results of the investigation.
• Children and adolescents
  • Children and adolescents should not be treated with Omeprazole.

 

• Wateriness and ability to operate machines
  • It is unlikely that Omeprazole will affect their ability to drive cars or use tools or machines. Side effects such as dizziness and visual disturbances can occur. You shouldn't drive a car or operate machines if they are affected.

Pregnancy

• Pregnancy
  • Find your doctor or pharmacist before taking Omeprazole when you are pregnant or try to get pregnant. Your doctor will decide whether you can take Omeprazole during this time.
• Breastfeeding
  • Your doctor will decide whether you can take Omeprazole if you breastfeed.
