Field of use

• The medicine is a medicine to stimulate ammonia detoxification by increasing urea synthesis in the liver.
• It also serves the ammonia detoxification in the tissue, i.e. outside the liver (extrahepatic).
• The drug is used to treat consciousness disorders as a result of liver failure (latent and manifest hepatic encephalopathy).

Contradictions

• The medicine must not be used,
  • if you are hypersensitive (allergic) against ornithine partition or one of the other components of the medicine
  • if you suffer from stronger kidney dysfunction (renal insufficiency). A serum creatininin value above 3 mg/100 ml can be considered as guideline.

dosage

• Unless otherwise provided by your doctor, the usual dose of up to 4 ampoules is daily. If the consciousness is beginning (pre -coma) and awareness (coma), your doctor can give up to 8 ampoules within 24 hours depending on the severity of the condition.
• Please speak to your doctor or pharmacist if you have the impression that the effect of the medicine is too strong or too weak.

• If a larger amount of the medicine has been used:
  • Poisoning has not yet been observed when the ornithine partition is overdosed. If necessary, your doctor will treat the symptoms you occur with you

• If you have any further questions about the application of the drug, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

Taking

• The medicine is a concentrate for the production of an infusion solution. Before the application, your doctor adds the ampoules of an infusion solution and infuses the medicine in this form.
• However, your doctor should only make the mixture immediately before application. For reasons of compatibility, however, your doctor should not dissolve more than 6 ampoules per 500 ml infusion.
• The infusion speed is max. 5 g of ornithine partition (according to the content of an ampoule) per hour.
• The medicine must not be administered intra -arterial.

Patient information

• Particular caution when using the medicine is required,
  • if high doses are to be used by the medicine. The umbrella level in the serum and urine is to be checked by your doctor.
  • with significantly restricted liver function. To avoid nausea and vomiting, your doctor will individually adjust the infusion speed for you.
  • So far there is no data for use in children.

• Wateriness and operating machines:
  • Due to the disease, your ability to guide motor vehicles and to operate machines can also be affected by the disease.

Pregnancy

• Pregnancy and breast feeding period
  • The safety of the drug during pregnancy and breastfeeding is not proven.
  • If you want to get pregnant, are pregnant or breastfeed, please inform your treating doctor.
  • Ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking/using all drugs.

Miscellaneous

- Due to the disease, the ability to carry motor vehicles and to operate machines can be impaired under the application of the drug.
- When used, the urea level should be checked by a doctor.
- The infusion solution may only be administered via veins.
- The infusion solution concentrate can be mixed with the usual infusion mixtures.
