Instructions for use for KOHLE Pulvis without gastric tube, 10x50 g

Field of use

  • The preparation is a medicine against diarrhea (antidiarrheal) and an antidote (antidote) for poisoning.
  • It is applied:
    • to prevent absorption into the body in the event of acute oral poisoning and drug overdose.
    • to accelerate excretion in the event of poisoning with substances that can pass from the intestine to the liver (e.g. carbamazepine, phenobarbital, phenylbutazone, theophylline).
    • for the symptomatic treatment of diarrhea in adults; for infants and children only as directed by a doctor.
  • If you do not feel better or even worse after 2-3 days of diarrhea, contact your doctor.

Contraindications

  • The medicine must not be taken,
    • if you are allergic to medicinal charcoal.
    • with feverish diarrhea.

dosage

  • Always take this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or exactly as your doctor, pharmacist or nurse has told you. If you are unsure, ask your doctor, pharmacist or nurse.
  • Dosage recommendation for poisoning:
    • Depending on the amount of poison ingested, 50 to 100 g of powder should be mixed with approx. 400 ml of water or unsweetened tea and administered orally or via a stomach tube. For children, the administration of 1 g/kg body weight (max. 50 g) is recommended. In severe poisoning and to interrupt the absorption of substances that can pass from the intestine to the liver, repeated administration at intervals of 2 to 4 hours is indicated. In general, laxative measures must be carried out following the administration of charcoal.
  • Dosage recommendation for diarrhea:
    • As a supportive therapy for diarrhea, adults receive 10 g of the drug several times a day.
    • The preparation is ready for use as a slurry with water in a ratio of 1:10 after stirring.
  • Use in children
    • In infants and children, the medicine should generally only be used as part of medical treatment.

 

  • If you have taken more than you should
    • After administration of very high doses, mechanical ileus (intestinal obstruction) can occur in individual cases, which can be prevented by administering saline laxatives.

  • Warnings and Precautions
    • Please talk to your doctor, pharmacist or nurse before taking the product.
    • Medicinal charcoal does not work in cases of poisoning with the following substances: lithium, thallium, iron salts, hydrogen cyanide, boric acid, methanol, ethanol, ethylene glycol. Other measures to remove poison (e.g. provoked vomiting, gastric lavage) are indicated here.
    • Medicinal charcoal is not effective for acid or alkaline burns and may complicate subsequent endoscopic diagnostics.
  • Children
    • In infants and children, the medicine should generally only be used as part of medical treatment.

 

  • Ability to drive and use machines
    • The medicine has no or negligible influence on the ability to drive and use machines.

Pregnancy

  • No restrictions.

Miscellaneous

- Since medicinal charcoal is excreted unchanged, the feces turn black.
- Medicinal charcoal does not work on poisoning with lithium, thallium, iron salts, hydrogen cyanide, boric acid, DDT, tolbutamide, methanol, ethanol, ethylene glycol.
- Medicinal charcoal is not effective for chemical burns caused by acids or alkalis.
- Laxative measures should be carried out after taking medicinal charcoal.
