How does the ingredient of the medicine work?

The active ingredient damages the outer shell, the so-called cell membrane of fungi. This shell thus loses some of its functions, cell components leak out and the cell can dissolve. Biofanal^® vaginal tablets is a specific anti-yeast agent for the treatment of fungal infections of the vagina. The vaginal tablets contain the active ingredient nystatin.

Fungi as pathogens
The presence of fungi on human skin and mucous membranes is normal at first. Only with an excessive multiplication does a fungal infection occur. When it comes to vaginal thrush, one speaks of vulvovaginal candidiasis, derived from the most common pathogen, Candida albicans. Candida species are yeast fungi that are the cause of a number of infectious diseases.

The risk factors
Excessive multiplication of pathogens to the point of vaginal fungus is based on a disruption of the healthy vaginal flora. Factors that promote this can be hormonal changes such as during pregnancy, menopause or the pill, as well as a weakened immune system, therapy with antibiotics or corticosteroids, diseases such as diabetes mellitus, stress and excessive intimate hygiene.

Symptoms of vaginal thrush
A vaginal yeast infection is noticeable by itching and burning in the genital area. There is also redness and swelling here, and a yellowish-white, crumbly discharge can often be observed.

Effective treatment
