Mode of action

How does the ingredient of the medicine work?

The active ingredient has analgesic, antipyretic and anti-inflammatory at the same time. It blocks the formation of certain messenger substances in the body, so-called prostaglandins. These are significantly involved in the development of pain, fever and inflammation.
Blood clotting is also affected by acetylsalicylic acid. The substance prevents the platelets (thrombocytes) from clumping together and thus improves the flow of the blood.

What speaks against an application?

Always:
- Hypersensitivity to the ingredients
- Ulcers in the digestive tract, such as
- Increased tendency to bleed
- Kidney failure
- Liver failure

Under certain circumstances - talk to your doctor or pharmacist about this:
- Bronchial asthma
- Heart failure
- Impaired kidney function
- Hepatic impairment
- Tendency to gout attacks

What age group do you need to consider?
- Children and adolescents under 18 years of age: There are no dosage information for this age group.

What about pregnancy and lactation?
- Pregnancy: consult your doctor. Various considerations play a role in whether and how the drug can be used during pregnancy.
- Breast-feeding: consult your doctor or pharmacist. He will examine your particular starting position and advise you accordingly as to whether and how you can continue breastfeeding.

If you have been prescribed the drug despite a contraindication, talk to your doctor or pharmacist. The therapeutic benefit can be higher than the risk that the use entails in the event of a contraindication.

Side effects

What adverse effects may occur?

- Gastrointestinal problems such as:
- Heartburn
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Diarrhea
- Stomach pain
- Microbleeds (barely visible or noticeable bleeding from the smallest vessels), especially in the gastrointestinal area
- Ulcers in the digestive tract, which very rarely can rupture
- Stomach bleeding, usually recognizable by the black stool, please consult a doctor immediately if it occurs; in rare cases, the bleeding can lead to anemia.
- Skin hypersensitivity reactions

If you notice any discomfort or changes during treatment, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

For the information at this point, side effects are primarily taken into account that occur in at least one in 1,000 patients treated.

Hints

What should you consider?
- In children and adolescents with febrile illnesses, the drug may only be given on medical advice. It can cause something called Reye's syndrome, a rare but life-threatening condition that causes prolonged vomiting.
- Caution: Patients with nasal polyps, chronic respiratory infections, asthma or who are prone to allergic reactions such as hay fever: the medicine can trigger an asthma attack or a severe allergic skin reaction. Therefor consult your doctor before usage.
- Before an operation - this also includes minor procedures such as e.g. pulling a tooth - state the intake/application of the medicine, as the bleeding time may be prolonged.
- There may be medicines with which interactions occur. You should therefore generally tell your doctor or pharmacist about any other medicine you are already using before starting treatment with a new medicine. This also applies to medicines that you buy yourself, use only occasionally or have been using for some time.
- Consumption of alcohol should be avoided as far as possible during long-term treatment . Occasional alcohol consumption in small amounts is allowed, but not with the drug.

Field of use

- For anticoagulant treatment in diseases of the coronary arteries, especially in acute myocardial infarction

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity reactions to all medicines can occur, in which case you must discontinue the medicine immediately. If an allergy to the active ingredient or one of the other ingredients of the drug is known, it must not be used.

The medicine must not be used in the case of:
- Gastric and duodenal ulcers
- Pathologically increased tendency to bleed
- Asthma
- Chronic or recurring stomach or duodenal problems
- Pre-damaged kidney
- Severe liver dysfunction

- In diseases of the coronary arteries (unstable angina pectoris): 1 tablet per day
- In acute myocardial infarction: 1-1.5 tablets per day
- To prevent another heart attack: 3 tablets per day
- After vascular surgery: 1 tablet per day
- For the prevention of cerebral infarction: 1/2-1 tablet per day

Revenue

- Take after meals with plenty of liquid.
- For treatment of acute heart attack, bite or chew first tablet.

Pregnancy

During pregnancy and breastfeeding, you should only take medication after consulting your doctor or pharmacist!

- Since the influence on the pregnancy is unclear, acetylsalicylic acid should not be taken in the first 6 months. The intake is not allowed in the last 3 months: In the last 3 months, the intake can lead to a prolongation of the pregnancy and inhibition of labour. An increased bleeding tendency has been observed in both mother and child. If ASS is taken shortly before birth, cerebral hemorrhages can occur, especially in premature babies.
- Acetylsalicylic acid passes into breast milk in small amounts.
Since adverse effects on the infant have not yet become known, it will not usually be necessary to interrupt breastfeeding if the recommended dose is used for a short period of time. If you use it for a long time or if you take larger amounts, you should stop breastfeeding.

Miscellaneous

- Not suitable for the treatment of pain.
- Please inform your doctor or dentist before an operation.
- Dizziness and ringing in the ears may be signs of an overdose, particularly in children and the elderly. In these cases, please notify a doctor.
- If the recommended dose is exceeded, liver values may increase. Therefore, regular monitoring of liver values, especially in children, is required.
- Can trigger a gout attack when uric acid levels are high.
- Use in children and adolescents with febrile illnesses only on medical advice
