Stress incontinence - a typical female ailments
Many women know this: with physical exertion, coughing, sneezing or laughing, small amounts of urine go off. Generally known as bladder weakness, the doctor refers to this form of incontinence as stress incontinence or stress incontinence.

Why women suffer more than men from stress incontinence is due to the female anatomy: in the so -called small pools there are closely side by side with the anus, the uterus with the vagina and the urinary bladder with the urethra. The lower part of the vineyard wall has grown with the bladder back wall. The pelvis is completed by a muscle plate that has passion openings for anus, vagina and urethra. It is referred to as a pelvic floor - and it is precisely this pelvic floor that now plays a crucial role in the development of urinary incontinence.

If the pelvic floor no longer supports
In healthy state, the pelvic floor is tight enough to support the abdominal organs and keep it anatomically correct. If the muscles of the pelvic floor slacken up, it can no longer fulfill its support function. The abdominal organs step deeper. As a result of this change of position, the closure of the monitoring muscle system of the urethra is affected and incontinence occurs. The form of incontinence, which develops from a pelvic floor weakness, calls the doctor stress or stress incontinence. The involuntary urine exit occurs with violent physical exercise or stress (= stress), for example when coughing, hopping or laughing. The reason for this is as follows: This effort increases the pressure in the abdomen. While a safe closure of the urethra is still guaranteed in the intact pelvic floor, this is no longer the case with a sagging pelvic floor. The bladder neck opens. Then the bladder pressure exceeds the reduced locking pressure, so urine is involuntarily off. First only drops, but with progressive loss of function also when walking and finally lying down. Why does the pelvic floor sleep?
The largest load samples for the pelvic floor muscles are pregnancy and birth. The pelvic floor, like the abdominal wall, is exposed to increasing pressure due to the enlarged uterus. In a vaginal birth, these forces increase significantly on the pelvic floor. This can be damaged by the pelvic floorlead muscles.

Other possible causes of stress incontinence:
  • constant heavy work stressful to the abdomen
  • chronic constipation, in which too strongly pressed
  • Hormone deficiency in menopause
  • search -related connective tissue weakness
  • strong overweight
  • general muscle loss in old age

What can be done with stress incontinence?
Treatment of the stress incontinence aims to keep the urinary bladder and urethra with a sphincter system in situations of sudden physical stress in a stable, "lockable" location. Depending on the strength of incontinence, there are different treatment options. With slight incontinence, a special pelvic floor training is recommended. There is often a lack of estrogen for women in menopause. Here doctors advise hormone therapy to compensate for the deficiency. In severe incontinence, surgery can also be considered.

Tips for self -help
What can you do to prevent incontinence or support the healing process?
  • Pelvic floor training can easily be carried out at home. Learn more about it here.
  • When overweight, it is advisable to lose weight. Here, nutritional advice or the exchange in the group can be helpful. You can find out more about the connection between incontinence and obesity here.
  • In the case of chronic constipation, a doctor should take chair -regulating measures because they can relieve the pelvic floor.

Promising: pelvic floor training with incontinence
The strengthening of the muscles of the pelvic floor through regular training is a promising treatment with mild to moderate stress incontinence.
Like arm, leg or abdominal muscles, the muscles of the pelvic floor can also be strengthened by special exercises. They consist of so -called skeletal muscles, which can be trained.

Exercise 1
  • Sit upright on a stool.
  • Put your weight on the vagina (men on the pubic).
  • Slowly breathe out and tighten the muscles of the pelvic floor.
  • Counter! If you come up to 10, that's very good. 15 would be excellent!

exercise 2
  • They sit in a relaxed posture, make a round back and press the pelvis forward.
  • Slowly breathe out and tighten the pelvic floor by the area between anus And vagina (men between the anus and testicles) firmly squeeze together.
  • Keep the voltage as long as possible. Counter!
  • Breathe in and solve the tension.

Exercise 3
  • Place on your back and set up your feet hip width. Test the buttocks firmly and gradually lift it off the ground. Slowly exhale, so that your diaphragm lifts.
  • This movement acts together with the abdominal and back muscles on the pelvic floor muscles- the pelvic floor closes.
  • When inhaling, lower the buttocks back to the floor and loosen the tension of the pelvic floor.

Important prerequisites
Certain conditions must be observed in pelvic floor training. The patients must be motivated to keep an intensive pelvic floor aerobic through for a long time. Because after the first successes, those affected must continue to train in order to keep the muscles in motion. A muscle that does not work and moves would lash again.
There must be no medical problems such as reducing uterine in women. With a mixed stress / urge incontinence, drug therapy for urge incontinence is also recommended.
Men can often completely complete the urine exit after prostate surgery through consistent pelvic floor training remedy.

Council and help for people with incontinence
Specialist societies, self -help associations and also commercial companies want to actively contribute to improving the living conditions of incontinent people.
The offer is versatile and can also be used anonymously. With around nine million affected people, incontinence is one of the most common age diseases in our society. This is not least due to the demographic change towards an outdated society - a development that the health system has not been able to ignore for a long time. For example, specialist societies, specialized clinics and self -help associations now offer a wide range of help. But health insurance companies and companies that work in this area, such as HARTMANN , offer helpful information and can serve as contacts. Affected and their caring relatives can contact the various facilities directly via the Internet or by telephone with their questions and problems.

Some important contact points for advice and help with incontinence are presented here:

German continence society e.v.

It offers addresses of medical advice centers, rehabilitation clinics, continence and pelvic floor centers as well as continuous self-help groups throughout Germany. In addition, extensive, competent information material can be requested: www. kontinenz-gesellschaft.de

Interdisciplinary continence and pelvic floor centers
In addition to prevention and diagnostics of incontinence, interdisciplinary continence and pelvic floor centers also deal with the therapy and care of patients. Medical and non-medical departments work closely together to increase the well-being of those affected. The technical quality of the facilities is ensured, they must be certified. For example, the German continence has society as a medical Scientific specialist society, a separate certification system for continence and pelvic floor centers. An overview of the centers can be found at http: // www. continentz-gesellschaft.de/kontinenz-und-beckenboden-Center. 48.0.html.

Self -help groups and associations
Self -help groups and associations are now numerous on the Internet. Some of them work regionally, but sometimes also act nationwide and nationwide. However, one thing seems to be common to all self -help associations: their concerns to inform those affected and their relatives independently.
