Field of use

• The drug contains the active ingredient lactulose. This is not absorbed in your body and reaches the colon unchanged. Lactulosis and its metabolic products produced in the large intestine pull water into the intestine and thus make the stool softer so that it can pass the intestine more easily.
• Lactulosis is used to treat the symptoms of constipation.

Contradictions

• The medicine must not be taken,
  • if you are allergic to lactulosis or one of the other components of this drug.
  • if you suffer from galactosemia (a heavy genetic defect that cannot be digested in galactosis), acute inflammatory bowel disease (such as Crohn's disease or colitis), obstructions in your intestine (apart from normal constipation), perforations or risk of perforations in the stomach -Intestine tract or caused by the abdominal pain of unknown cause.

• Always take this medicine exactly as described or exactly after the agreement made with your doctor or pharmacist. Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you are not quite sure.

    • Conservation dose: 15 - 30 ml daily; 1 - 2 bags, corresponding to 10 - 20 g lactulose
• After that, the dose can be reduced individually.
• The daily dose should be taken in a portion for breakfast.
• It can take 2-3 days for the desired effect to occur, since lactulose is only broken down in the large intestine.
• In older patients and patients with kidneys or there are no special dosing recommendations.
• Application for children and adolescents:
  • The recommended dose is:
    • Young people over 14 years:
      • Initial dose: 15 - 45 ml daily; 1 - 3 bags, corresponding to 10 - 30 g lactulose
      • Conservation dose: 15 - 30 ml daily; 1-2 bag, corresponding to 10 - 20 g lactulose
    • Children (7-14 years)
      • Initial dose: 15 ml daily; 1 bag, corresponding to 10 g lactulose
      • Conservation dose: 15 ml daily; 1 bag, corresponding to 10 g lactulose
• Please do not give lactulose to children without having previously turned to your doctor about prescription and careful surveillance.
• To accurate dosage in infants, toddlers and children up to 6 years, it should be noted that the dosing recommendations with lactulosis cannot be observed and lactulose is available in bottles.

 

• If you have taken a larger amount than you should
  • In the case of an overdose, diarrhea and abdominal pain can occur. Contact your doctor or pharmacy if you have taken more than the intended dose of lactulose.

 

• If you have forgotten the intake
  • If you have forgotten a dose of lactulose, that's not a problem. Just take the next dose at the usual time. Do not take the double amount if you have forgotten the prior intake.

Taking

• Warnings and Precautions
  • Please speak to your doctor or pharmacist before taking lactulose.
  • If you suffer from gastrocardial syndrome (Roemheld syndrome), inform your treating doctor before taking lactulose.
  • If you suffer after use of symptoms such as meteorism or a feeling of being bloated, interrupt the treatment and consult your doctor.
  • In these cases, the doctor will carefully monitor the treatment. Long -term use of unadjusted doses (which lead to more than 2 - 3 soft chairs per day) or abuse can lead to diarrhea and disorders of the electrolyte balance.
  • If you are an older patient or a patient with a bad general condition and take lactulose over a period of more than 6 months, your doctor will regularly examine your blood electrolytes.
  • Please do not use the medicine for more than two weeks without medical advice.
  • Children and adolescents
    • Lactulosis should not normally be administered to small children and newborns, since it can disturb the normal reflexes of the daring emptying.
    • In special cases, the doctor can prescribe a child, toddler or newborn lactulose. In these cases, the doctor will carefully monitor the treatment.
    • Lactulose can contain small amounts of sugar. If the doctor has informed you that you have an intolerance to some sugar, then you should obtain medical advice before taking this drug.
    • You should consume enough fluid during treatment (approximately 2 liters/day, corresponding to 6 - 8 glasses).

 

• Wateriness and ability to operate machines
  • The medicine has no effect on the ability to use and the ability to use machines.
