Field of use

• The medicine is a disinfectant, antiseptic (germicidal agent) for use to skin, mucous membrane and wounds.
• It is used once to disinfect the outer skin, the oral mucosa, the vagina, the cervix and the urethra.
• The medicine is repeated, used in a limited time as an antiseptic for hand disinfection, bladder catheterization and in the event of damaged skin, such as B. pressure ulcers, lower leg ulcers, superficial wounds and burns.

Contradictions

• The medicine must not be used,
  • if you are allergic to iodine or one of the other components of this drug.
  • if you suffer from an overactive thyroid (hyperthyroidism) or another existing (manifest) thyroid disease,
  • if you are ill from the very rare chronic dermatitis dermatitis herpetiformis duhring,
  • if you have a radiation therapy of the thyroid with iodine (radioiodine therapy) planned or carried out (until the treatment).

dosage

• Always apply the medicine as described or exactly after the agreement made with your doctor or pharmacist. Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
• The medicine is undiluted and intended in dilution for external application. It must be applied to the area to be treated until complete wetting. The film, which is forming when drying, can be easily washed off with water.
• For skin disinfection or antiseptic of the mucous membrane, e.g. B. before surgical interventions, biopsies, injections, punctures, blood samples, bladder catheterization, the medicine is undiluted.
• For the skin disinfection of low -sebum glands, the exposure time is at least 1 minute, for at least 10 minutes for seed gland -rich skin. The skin must be kept damp through the undiluted preparation during the entire period of exposure.
• In the case of preoperative skin disinfection, "puddle formation" must be avoided among the patient due to possible skin irritation.
• Hygienic and Christurgical hand disinfection (in the event of intolerance to alcoholic hand disinfectants):
  • The medicine is undiluted for hand disinfection. 3 ml solution are rubbed into the hands for hygienic hand disinfection. Wash hands after an exposure time of 1 minute.
  • For surgical hand disinfection, 2 x 5 ml solution are rubbed into the hands over an exposure time of 5 minutes. The hands must be kept damp through the undiluted preparation during the entire period of exposure.
• For an antiseptic treatment of superficial wounds, including combustion wounds, the medicine is applied undiluted to the areas to be treated.
• The medicine can be diluted for antiseptic rinsing. The following dilutions are recommended as guidelines:
  • Rinsing in the context of wound treatment (e.g. pressure ulcers, lower leg ulcers, fire) and perioperative infection prophylaxis 1: 2 to 1: 20.
• Normal tap water is suitable for dilution. If sustained isotony is desired, physiological saline solution or wrestling solution can be used. The dilution must always be made fresh and consumed soon.
• The brown color of the drug is a property of the preparation and indicates its effectiveness.
• A extensive decolorization indicates the exhaustion of the effectiveness of the preparation.

 

• Duration of the application
  • When using repeated, the frequency and duration of the application depend on the present indication.
  • The medicine can be applied one to several times a day.
  • Wound treatment should be continued as long as there are signs of infection or a significant risk of infection of the wound conditions.
  • If, after a multi -day (2 to 5 days) regular application, your symptoms have not improved or if symptoms occur again after the treatment has been completed, please see your doctor.

Patient information

• Warnings and Precautions
  • Please speak to your doctor or pharmacist before using the medicine.
  • After thyroid diseases or in the case of a goiter, you should only use the medicine for a long time and large area (e.g. over 10 % of the body area and longer than 14 days) only on the express instruction of the doctor. Even after the end of the therapy (up to 3 months), an early symptoms of a possible thyroid overactive must be observed (see category "side effects") and, if necessary, the thyroid function should be monitored.
  • With simultaneous lithium therapy, a regular application of the drug must be avoided (see category "Interactions").
  • in the case of skin disinfection before surgical interventions or operations, puddle formation among the patient must be avoided due to possible skin irritation and possible skin burns (2nd - 3rd degree).
• Newborns and infants
  • In newborns and infants up to the age of 6 months, the drug is only applied to the express instruction of the doctor and extremely limited. In this case, control of the thyroid function is necessary. The random absorption of the drug by the infant with the mouth must be avoided.
• Older people
  • In older people, the risk of an overactive thyroid triggered by iodine is increased. You should therefore only use the medicine after consultation with your doctor. In older patients with a goiter or special assessment of thyroid dysfunction, large and long -term application should only be carried out on the express instruction of the doctor. If necessary, the thyroid function must be monitored.
• Influence of diagnostic examinations or radioiod therapy
  • Due to the oxidizing effect of the active ingredient povidon iodine, various diagnostics can provide false-positive results (including toluidine and guajakharz for hemoglobin or glucose determination in the chair or urine). Povidon iodine can influence the iodine recording of the thyroid gland; This can be used under treatment with the medicine on disorders of diagnostic examinations of the thyroid gland (thyroidconducting centigraphy, PBI determination, radioiod diagnostics) and making planned radioiod therapy impossible. Until the start of a new scintigram, a distance of at least 1 - 2 weeks after the treatment is stopped should be observed.

 

• Wateriness and the ability to operate machines
  • The medicine does not flow to the traffic and operate machines.

Pregnancy

• If you are pregnant or breastfeed, or if you suspect to be pregnant or intend to become pregnant, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before using this drug.
• During pregnancy and breastfeeding, the medicine is only to be applied to the express instruction of the doctor and extremely limited. In this case, the child's thyroid function is required. The random absorption of the drug by the infant with his mouth on the breast of the breastfeeding mother must be avoided.
