Dosage for immediate smoking cessation

Use if you smoke more than 20 cigarettes per day:

• Week 1-8: 1x nicorette® daily TX plaster 25 mg
• Week 9-10: 1x nicorette® daily TX plaster 15 mg

Contraindications

nicorette® TX plaster 25 mg must not be used,

• if you are a non-smoker.
• if you smoke occasionally and smoke one cigarette per day or less often.
• if you are allergic to nicotine.

Recommended use of nicorette® TX patch with 25 mg nicotine:

The use of the nicorette® TX plaster  
  
The nicorette® TX patch 25 mg releases its therapeutic nicotine into the blood through the skin for 16 hours.There is no need to use a patch while sleeping, otherwise you would not smoke a cigarette at night.This supports the natural wake-sleep rhythm.All you have to do is stick a new plaster on your skin after getting up.To apply the nicotine patch, the skin should be dry and largely hair-free.Suitable parts of the body are the upper arm, hip or upper body, whereby the adhesive area should be changed daily.The patches may remain on the skin while showering.The nicotine patches should be removed before going to the sauna or swimming.    
  
The nicorette® TX patches with 25 mg nicotine are starter patches for smokers of more than 20 cigarettes per day.In order to achieve complete smoking cessation, the nicotine intake should be gradually reduced over the course of therapy using lower-dose patches (first the nicorette® TX patch 15 mg, then the patch with 10 mg nicotine).The dosage is one patch per day and is intended for a therapy period of 12 weeks.Smoking is not permitted during use.

Intake

• Before using the patch, you should wash your hands.
• Every morning, immediately after getting up, a plaster is applied to a clean, dry, hairless and uninjured area of skin on the upper body, upper arm or hip after removing the protective film.To do this, press the patch firmly against the skin for 10 - 15 seconds.
• Afterwards, you should wash your hands thoroughly so that any nicotine stuck to your fingers does not accidentally get into your eyes.
• The maximum nicotine level in the blood is reached in the afternoon (approx. 9 hours after applying the patch) when the risk of a relapse is greatest.The patch is removed in the evening before going to bed (i.e. the patch usually remains on the skin for 16 hours).This means that treatment with the 16 hour patch mimics the change in nicotine levels corresponding to the wake/sleep cycle in smokers.These also do not absorb nicotine while you sleep.In patients who react to nicotine administration during sleep with sleep disorders, this side effect can be avoided.
• The next morning, apply a fresh patch to another area of skin.The same area of skin should only be covered again after a few days.

• Warnings and precautions
  • Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using the medicine,
    • if you have suffered a serious cardiovascular event within the last 4 weeks or have been hospitalized for cardiovascular problems, such as:
      • Stroke
      • Heart attack
      • unstable or worsening narrowing of the coronary arteries (angina pectoris)
      • Prinzmetal Angina (a specific form of angina pectoris)
      • Cardiac arrhythmias
      • Bypass operations
      • surgical procedures to expand blood vessels (angioplastic procedures)
    • if you suffer from high blood pressure that has not been adequately treated
  • In these cases you should only use the product after consulting your doctor.
• Caution when using the drug is also required,
  • if you suffer from moderate to severe liver damage
  • if you suffer from severe kidney weakness (renal insufficiency)
  • if you suffer from acute duodenal and stomach ulcers
  • if you suffer from diabetes mellitus (your doctor may reduce your insulin dose)
  • if you suffer from an insufficiently treated hyperthyroidism
  • if you have a tumor of the adrenal medulla (pheochromocytoma).
• Your doctor will carefully weigh the risks of nicotine replacement therapy against those of continuing to smoke.
• Notes:
  • Nicotine is a highly toxic substance.Even in a dosage that is perfectly tolerated by adult smokers, nicotine can cause severe symptoms of poisoning in small children, i.e.h.The use of the preparation can be life-threatening for children.Therefore, the medicine must be kept out of the reach of children at all times.
  • Since the patches still contain nicotine even after use, they must be disposed of in such a way that they cannot under any circumstances get into the hands of a child.
• Children and young people
  • Only use the product in children and adolescents under 18 years of age after consulting a doctor, as there is only limited experience to make a general recommendation for this age group.

 

• Ability to drive and use machines
  • Effects on the ability to drive and use machines are not known.

Pregnancy

• If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to become pregnant, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking any medicines.
• Pregnancy
  • Smoking can cause serious harm to the fetus and infant and should therefore be stopped.Pregnant smokers should quit smoking without the help of nicotine-containing medicines.The use of the drug should only be considered after consulting your doctor if there is a risk of continuing to smoke.In this case, the doctor must weigh the risks of continuing to smoke (possibly higher nicotine plasma levels, harmful substances from tobacco smoke) against the risks of nicotine replacement treatment.
• Lactation
  • Nicotine passes freely into breast milk in quantities that can affect the infant, even in therapeutic doses.The use of the preparation should therefore be avoided during breastfeeding.If smoking cessation is not achieved, the use of nicotine replacement therapy in breastfeeding smokers should only be initiated after consultation with a healthcare professional.
  • Intermittent dosing products may be preferred as these typically result in a lower daily dose of nicotine than patches.When using intermittent dosing products, women should use the medication immediately after breastfeeding and allow as much time as possible (2 hours is recommended) between the use of the intermittent dosage form and the next breastfeeding.
• Fertility
  • Smoking can have adverse effects on female and male fertility (fertility).It is not known what specific contribution nicotine has to these effects.However, women who want to have children should, if possible, neither smoke nor take nicotine replacement therapy.Although smoking can have negative effects on male fertility, there is no evidence that special contraceptive measures are required for men taking nicotine replacement therapy.
