Instructions for use for REMOGEN Omega eye drops, 20x0.25 ml

Remogen® Omega: irritable, refreshing and wetting

Dry, irritated eyes are not uncommon, but rather a common disease (approx. 15-17% of the German population are affected). Dry eyes are usually a chronic disease that should be treated early to avoid consequential damage to the surface of the eye.

In technical terms one speaks of "keratoconjunctivitis sicca". The most common cause of dry eyes is a disturbance in the quality of the tear fluid: in this case the composition of the tear film is disturbed and this does not stick to the cornea for long enough. It is not uncommon for this to be due to inflammation of the surface of the eye or tear gland.1

As a result, symptoms such as itching, burning, foreign body feeling, redness and pain occur. In order to counteract these symptoms, to rebuild the disturbed tear film and to be able to effectively combat the inflammation of the eye, tear substitutes - such as Remogen® Omega - have proven their worth. The microemulsion of Remogen® Omega provides the eyes with important nutrients such as omega-3 fatty acids and vitamin E as well as moisture, which can regenerate and protect the eye surface.

Application recommendation
Wash hands thoroughly before use. Turn off the locking cap from the single dose tank and keep the drip opening over the eye to be treated. Use the index finger of the free hand to pull the bottom of the eye down. With slight pressure, a drop of Remogen® Omega can be dropped. Unless otherwise recommended, drip 1 to 2 drops into the eye as required. The solution is evenly distributed by the eyelid and forms a transparent and durable fluid layer on the surface of the eye.

Omega-3 fatty acids and vitamin E-for eyesight and the preservation of healthy eyes

Omega-3 fatty acids cannot be formed by the human body or only very limited. Therefore, they are one of the essential nutrients that the body must be supplied with, for example, through nutrition. The two most important representatives are the Eicosapentaenic acid (EPA) and Docosahexaenic acid (DHA). During pregnancy, the omega-3 fatty acid DHA accumulates in the retina, among other things, and thus plays an important role in the child's development of vision. Omega-3 fat acids can also be detected in the tear film. In addition to omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin E also plays an important role as a radical catcher. As a result, it helps to protect the cells from oxidative stress.

Omega-3 fatty acids provide important starting materials for anti-inflammatory substances in the immune system and contribute to a healthy and stable tear film. A meta-analysis of various studies has shown that omega-3 fatty acids represent an effective therapy option in the treatment of dry eyes. In addition to oral intake, eye drops with omega-3 fatty acids can also be a treatment option.2

Frequent questions and answers

*How is the tear film onbuilt?
The tear film consists of three layers. An outer lipid layer, the aqueous middle layer and the inner layer of Muzin. With the muzin or mucus layer, the tear film adheres to the corneal surface. The aqueous layer forms the middle layer and makes up most of the tear film. It not only consists of water, but also of nutrients, hyaluronic acid and oxygen for supplying the surface of the eye. The outer lipid layer is produced by the so-called Meibom glands on the edge of the eye lider and prevents the tear fluid.

With a defective lipid layer, gaps are created in the dairy film, which evaporates moisture from the aqueous layer.

What is to be understood by Meibom gland-dysfunction?
The Meibom glands are sebaceous glands that are located on the edge of the eyelids. If there is a meibom gland dysfunction, they are blocked or inflamed. As a result, the production of the lipid layer of the tear film is disturbed, which evaporates faster. This can lead to dry eyes. Watering eyes can be an indication of a meibom gland dysfunction.

What can be done additionally in dry eyes?
The human body consists of 60 percent of water. Water is essential for the body and fulfills versatile tasks. Therefore, it should be drunk in principle, but even in dry eyes.

More tips for dry eyes are:
· Consciously and regularly to blink
· To ventilate the interiors regularly and to protect the eyes from drafts

Furthermore, regular check-ups at the ophthalmologist are essential for therapy success. In addition, nutritional supplements can contribute to the preservation of normal eyesight.

Despite a balanced diet, it can make sense to add the body to omega-3 fatty acids in the form of nutritional supplements, such as Omega-3 TRB®.

How is Remogen® Omega?
Remogen® Omega is stored in the pharmacy. As soon as it is handed over to the patient, the durability is three months in which it can be stored at room temperature and not in the fridge. Storage in the refrigerator is of course also possible and is preferred by some users because of the cooling effect.
