Field of use

• The medicine is used to treat high phosphate values in patients with chronic renal failure in which dialysis (blood wash) is carried out (hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis).
• It belongs to a group of medication known as phosphate binders. Phosphate is a mineral that affects the health of the bones. With limited kidney function, there are generally also high phosphate values in the blood. This can lead to bone problems.
• The preparation binds phosphate and thus compensates for its phosphate values.

Contradictions

• The medicine must not be used
  • if you are allergic to calcium acetate, magnesium carbonate or one of the other components of this drug.
  • if your phosphate values in the blood are too low.
  • if you have increased calcium values in the blood.
    • This can be due to vitamin D overdosing, tumors in lungs, chest, kidneys or blood, bone metastases, certain lung diseases (sarcoidosis) or bone loss as a result of lack of exercise.
  • if they have increased magnesium values in the blood and/or corresponding signs.
  • if you have a cardiac arrhythmia called AV-Block III (total AV block).
  • if you suffer from muscle fatigue, including those of the eyes and muscle weakness when chewing, swallowing and breathing (myasthenia gravis - severe muscle weakness).

dosage

• Always take this medicine exactly after consultation with your doctor. Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
• The prescribed dose should be taken precisely according to instructions and checked by your doctor in your blood according to the phosphate value.
• The recommended dose is:
  • 3 to 10 film -coated tablets
• Maximum daily dose:
  • 12 Film -coated tablets
• The recommended initial dose is 3 tablets a day. The dose is then gradually increased until the desired phosphate values are reached in the blood, unless they show high calcium values.
• Application for children and adolescents:
  • The security and effectiveness of children and adolescents has not been proven. For this reason, the application is not recommended in children and adolescents under the age of 18.

• Duration of the application

Taking

• Always take this medicine with meals.
• Do not crush or chew the tablets.

  • When taking this drug with regard to the calcium, magnesium and phosphate values of the blood, caution is required in the following cases:
    • with very high, non -treatable phosphate values
    • with high potassium values that are difficult to treat
    • with a low heart rate or cable defects of the heart that are related to a slow heartbeat (2nd degree AV block).
  • Your doctor will regularly check your phosphate, magnesium and calcium values as well as the calcium phosphate product in your blood. If your calcium and magnesium values are too high in the blood, your doctor will reduce the dose of this medicine accordingly or cancel the treatment. An adjustment of the calcium and magnesium value in the dialysate may be required.
  • Caution is advised:
    • when taking vitamin D preparations and certain diuretics (water tablets), such as hydrochlorothiacida, as these increase the amount of calcium in the body
    • when taking high doses of this drug over a longer period of time, since the magnesium value in the blood can increase. Possible signs of high magnesium values are stomach problems such as nausea, loss of appetite and intestinal. Very high magnesium values can lead to muscle weakness, low blood pressure as well as fainting and coma.
    • if you take acid -neutralizing agents (e.g. to relieve heartburn) that contain calcium or magnesium. Talk to your doctor before taking acid-neutralizing funds, since you can additionally increase the calcium and magnesium quantity contained in this medicine.
    • in chronic kidney diseases, since taking this drug can lead to high calcium values in the blood. Possible signs of high calcium values are muscle weakness and stomach problems such as stomach pain, colonization, nausea and vomiting. Please speak to your doctor if such symptoms should occur.
    • Please pay attention to the possible symptoms of increased calcium values in the blood as shown in the "side effects" category.
