Field of use

• The drug contains the active ingredient nystatin, which is indicated for the treatment of fungal infections (antifungal) of the skin and mucous membranes.
• The medicine is used for the local treatment of the oral building and the renovation of the intestine in yeast infestation.

Contradictions

• The medicine must not be taken
  • if you are allergic to Nystatin or a related active ingredient (amphotericin B, Natamycin) or one of the other components of this medicine.
  • for the treatment of systemic (the internal organs relating to) fungal infections.

dosage

• Always apply this medicine as described or exactly after the agreement made with your doctor or pharmacist. Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
  • The recommended dose is:
    • In children (>/= 2 years) and adults, depending on the severity of the disease, drop in 0.5 - 1.5 ml suspension after meals a day.
    • Newborns (0 to 4 weeks) and toddlers (1 month to 2 years) receive 0.5 - 1 ml of suspension 4 times a day.
  • Prevention:
    • In the case of severe patients, treatment with broad spectrum antibiotics, corticoids or cytostatics there is a risk of yeast mushroom infection of the gastrointestinal tract. Preventive treatment in the same dosage is indicated in these patients to prevent the growth of yeast mushrooms in the intestine.

• Duration of the application
  • In the case of oral thrust, treatment is to be continued for 2-3 days beyond the disappearance of the visible signs of illness.
  • In the case of yeast mushroom infections of the gastrointestinal tract, treatment should generally be carried out for 2 weeks.
  • Please speak to your doctor or pharmacist if you have the impression that the effect of the drug is too strong or too weak.

• If you have taken a larger amount than you should
  • Very few information is available for overdose when using oral use of nystatin. Since the intake from the gastrointestinal tract in the body is negligible after oral administration, even at high doses, side effects of nystatin on the organism are not to be expected even when overdosed. If necessary, the usual measures to remove medication must be taken from the gastrointestinal tract.

• If you have forgotten the intake
  • Do not take the double dose if you have forgotten the prior intake.

• If you cancel the intake
  • You could endanger the success of the treatment.

Taking

  • If there is no oral thrust, the suspension can be swallowed straight away or administered with severe swallowing problems via a gastric tube.

• If you are pregnant or breastfeed, or if you suspect that you are pregnant or intend to become pregnant, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before using this drug.
• Nystatin, the active ingredient of the drug, is hardly absorbed in therapeutic dose after oral administration over the intact skin or over the mucous membranes.
• The placenta barrier does not happen, and a transfer to breast milk is also not to be expected.
• The medicine can be used after pregnancy and breastfeeding for benefits/risk assessment.
