Mode of action

Femibionproducts contain folate (folic acid & MetaFolin®) & Other selected nutrients; Femibion 2 & 3 also contain docosahexaenic acid (DHA). The supplementary absorption of folic acid increases the folding level in pregnant women. A low folding level in pregnant women is a risk factor for the development of neural tube defects in the adolescents. For this purpose, an additional 400 μg folic acid every day should be taken over a period of at least one month before and up to three months after conception. A neural tube defect is due to several risk factors. Change in a risk factor can have a positive effect or not. Folate contributes to the growth of the maternal tissue during pregnancy, including the development of the placenta. The intake of DHA (polyunsaturated omega-3 fatty acid) by the mother contributes to the normal development of the brain and the eyes of the fetus and breastfed infants. The positive effect of DHA occurs if 200 mg DHA are taken in addition to the daily dose recommended for omega-3 fatty acids (i.e. 250 mg DHA and EPA).
