Field of use

  • The drops are used:
    • To prevent rickets (calcification disorders of the skeleton in the growth age) in premature babies, newborns and children
    • For the supportive treatment of osteoporosis (breakdown of the bone tissue).

Contradictions

  • The drops must not be taken,
    • if you are allergic to Colecalciferol or one of the other components of this medicine
    • for hypercalcemia (increased calcium level in the blood) and/or
    • Hypercalciurie (increased calcium level in the urine)
    • in pseudohypoparathyroidism (disturbance of the parathormone household), since the vitamin D needs to be reduced by the phases of normal vitamin D sensitivity, with the risk of long overdosing. For this purpose, more controllable active ingredients with vitamin D activity are available.
    • if the kidney stones containing calcium
    • with increased vitamin D levels in the blood (hypervitaminosis d)

dosage

  • Always take this medicine exactly as described or exactly after the agreement made with your doctor or pharmacist. Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
  • The recommended dose is:
    • To prevent rickets in infants and toddlers:
      • Infants under 1 year: 6 drops daily (corresponding to 400 I. E. Vitamin D)
      • Small children over 1 year: 6 - 9 drops daily (corresponding to 400 - 600 I. E. Vitamin D)
    • For prevention against rickets in premature babies:
      • The dosage must be determined individually by the treating doctor.
    • To support the support of osteoporosis:
      • 12 - 15 Drops every day (corresponding to 800 - 1000 I. E. Vitamin D)

  • If you have taken a larger amount than you should
    • Symptoms of an overdose
      • Ergocalciferol (vitamin D2) and Colecalciferol (vitamin D3) have only a relatively low therapeutic width. In adults with a normal function of the parathyroid glands, the threshold for vitamin D intoxications is between 40,000 and 100,000 i.e. over 1 to 2 months. Infants and toddlers can react sensitively to far lower doses. Therefore, warnings are carried out without medical control before the supply of vitamin D.
      • In the case of overdose, there is an increase in phosphate in the blood and urine to the hypercalcalcemia syndrome (increased calcium concentration in the blood), later also to calcium deposits in the tissues and especially in the kidney (kidney stones and kidney calcification) and vessels.
      • The symptoms of intoxication are not very characteristic and express themselves in nausea, vomiting, initially often diarrhea, later constipation (constipation), loss of appetite, weary, head, muscle and joint pain, muscle weakness as well as stubborn sleepiness, azotemia (increased nitrogen concentration in the blood), Increased thirst and increased urge to urinate and drying out in the final phase. Typical laboratory findings are hypercalcemia (increased calcium concentration in the blood), hypercalciuria (increased calcium concentration in the urine) as wellherhed serum values for 25 hydroxycolecalciferol.
    • Therapy measures for overdose
      • In the case of overdose, measures to treat the often long -term and possibly threatening hypercalcemia (increased calcium concentration in the blood) are required.
      • The first measure is the vitamin D preparation; A normalization of hypercalcemia (increased calcium concentration in the blood) as a result of vitamin D intoxication takes several weeks. Branded to the extent of hypercalcemia (increased calcium concentration in the blood), calcium -free or calcium -free nutrition, plenty of fluid, increase in urinary excretion using the drug Furosemide and the administration of glucocorticoids (medicines for the treatment of certain allergic diseases) and calcitonin in the blood).
      • In the case of sufficient kidney function, infusions with isotonic salt solution (3 to 6 l in 24 hours) with the addition of Furosemide (medicinal products to increase urine excretion) as well as 15 mg/kg body weight (kg)/hour sodium determination (medicinal products, the calcium in Blood bind) under continuous calcium and ECG control quite reliably reducing calcium-lowering. In the event of reduced urinary excretion, on the other hand, hemodialysis treatment (blood wash) with a calcium-free dialysate is indicated.
      • There is no special antidote.
      • Please ask your doctor or pharmacist about the sign of an overdose of vitamin D.

  • If you have forgotten the intake
    • Do not take the double amount if you have forgotten the prior intake.

  • If you cancel the intake
    • If you stop taking it prematurely, your symptoms can deteriorate again or reappear.

  • If you have any further questions about the application of this medicine, please contact your doctor or pharmacist.

Taking

  • The solution is administered or taken according to the dosage instructions.
  • Adults take the solution in a teaspoon of liquid.

Patient information

  • Warnings and Precautions
    • Please speak to your doctor or pharmacist before taking the drops.
    • Particular caution when taking it is required,
      • if you are disturbed by the excretion of calcium and phosphate over the kidney
      • in treatment with benzothiadiazin derivatives (medicines to promote urine excretion)
      • if you are immobilized because there is a risk of hypercalcemia (increased calcium levels in the blood) and hypercalciuria (increased calcium level in the urine). The calcium levels in the blood and urine should be monitored.
      • if you suffer from sarcoidosis, since the risk of increased conversion of vitamin D insists into its active shape. The calcium levels in the blood and urine should be monitored.
    • In patients with restricted kidney function that are treated, the effect on the calcium and phosphate balance should be monitored.
    • If other vitamin D-containing medicines are prescribed, the dose of vitamin D must be taken into account. Additional administration of vitamin D or calcium should only be carried out under medical monitoring. In such cases, the calcium levels in the blood and urine must be monitored.
    • During long -term treatment, the calcium levels in the blood and urine should be monitored regularly and the kidney function should be checked by measuring the serum creatinin. This review is particularly important in older patients and at the same time treatment with heart glycosides (medicines to promote the function of the cardiac muscles) or diuretics (medicines to promote urine excretion). In the case of hypercalcemia (increased calcium concentration in the blood) or signs of reduced kidney function, the dose must be reduced or the treatment is interrupted. It is advisable to reduce the dose or to interrupt the treatment if the calcium content in the urine exceeds 7.5 mmol/24 hours (300 mg/24 hours).

  • Trafficpower and ability to use machines
    • There are no special precautions required.

Pregnancy

  • If you are pregnant or breastfeed, or if you suspect that you are pregnant or intend to become pregnant, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this drug.
  • Pregnancy
    • During pregnancy, the drops should only be taken in doses that are absolutely necessary to fix the defect. Overdoses of vitamin D during pregnancy must be prevented because long-lasting hypercalcemia (increased calcium concentration in the blood) can lead to physical and intellectual disabilities as well as congenital heart and eye diseases of the child.
  • Breastfeeding
    • Vitamin D and its metabolic products pass into breast milk. An overdose in the infant generated in this way has not been observed.

Hints

Read the package supplement and ask your doctor or pharmacist for risks and side effects.
