Field of use

Levocarnitine (L-carnitine for short) is a body's own substance that plays a central role in the energy supply of the skeletal and heart muscles.

But there is not always sufficient carnitin - keyword "carnitine deficiency". A lack of carnitine can not only result in certain symptoms such as exhaustion, difficulties of concentrating or increased susceptibility to infections, but is sometimes also involved in muscle problems such as muscle loss, weakness, pain as well as muscle dystrophy and muscle atrophy.

BIOCARN® is used to compensate for a carnitine lack. Even in certain muscle diseases such as muscular dystrophy, BiOCARN® can make a valuable contribution as a supplementary therapy.

The special feature: BiOCARN® contains high-quality L carnitine in the highest drug quality.

Good to know: The dosage of carnitine in nutritional supplements is often not sufficient to compensate for a carnitine shortage. Biocarn®, on the other hand, is highly dosed and contains 303 mg levocarnitine per ml syrup. Due to its proven effectiveness and tolerance, Biocarn® is approved as a medicine and thus provides the active ingredient in the highest quality of drugs.

The most important areas of application from BiOCARN® are:

• Compensation of carnitine deficiency, for example due to vegetarian nutrition, increased sporting stress, artificial (parental) nutrition or age -related undersupply of nutrients.
• Treatment of primary systemic carnitine deficiency if the body cannot produce a carnitine due to genetic defects itself.
• Compensation of carnitine losses due to medication or after a dialysis
• To supplement the treatment for progressive muscular dystrophy of the type Duchenne, provided that there are still functioning skeletal muscles.
• As a treatment attempt in special forms of muscular dystrophy (muscle loss) with lipid accumulation (fat accumulation), which are based on a primary muscular carnitine deficiency.

Carnitin is basically available to the body from two sources:

• the body's carnitine production
Levocarnitine is usually formed in the body itself. More precisely, the organism L-Carnitin from the amino acids lysine and methionine produces in the liver and kidney-B vitamins, vitamin C and the trace element iron are indispensable "helpers" here.

• Carnitin intake about food
In addition, we take care of Carnitin about certain foods. Red meat is considered the most important carnitine supplier.

In certain cases can occur a lack of carnitine. Possible causes of a carnitine deficiency can be:

• Certain diseases that affect carnitine utilization ("secondary carnitin deficiency")
• Vegetarian or vegan diet (inadequate carnitine intake via animal foods or lack of vitamin B12 that is required for the body's own carnitine synthesis)
• Increased carnitine consumption (e.g. in endurance sports, after surgical interventions or dialysis)
• In rare cases, a primary lack of carnitine can also occur: here the body's own production of carnitine is disturbed, for example, due to a malfunction in the liver or kidneys.

Contradictions

dosage

Dosage of Biocarn (pack size: 3x50 ml):

Please note the package insert for dosage and use of BiOCARN® and ask your doctor or pharmacist.

In general:

• The recommended dose is 1 g of levocarnitine (3.3 ml bioCarn® = 1 measuring cup) per day. On days with hemodialysis treatment, BiOCARN® should be taken after completing the hemodialysis.
• BIOCARN® can be taken independently of pure meals or with fluid.
• Carnitin's bioavailability can be increased when Biocarn® is taken in several individual doses.
• Interactions with food and drinks are not yet known.
• Due to its good tolerance, Biocarn® is suitable for long -term intake. However, a doctor should decide on the duration of the application.

Taking

• The medicine can be diluted to take with liquid. It can be taken with hot drinks or juices regardless of this.
• On days with hemodialysis treatment, the medicine should be taken after the hemodialysis has been completed.

- Signs of carnitin lack are muscle dysfunction and/or liver diseases with interference of brain function and too low blood sugar levels with acidification of the blood.
