Field of use

• Treatment of clinically and chemically proven vitamin B1 deficiencies if these cannot be remedied through nutrition.
• Vitamin B1 deficiency can occur in:
  • severe malnutrition and malnutrition (e.g. beriberi), artificial nutrition over a long period of time, zero diet, blood washing (hemodialysis), impaired food utilization (malabsorption),
  • chronic alcoholism (alcohol-toxic cardiomyopathy, Wernicke encephalopathy, Korsakoff syndrome),
  • Hyperacidification of the blood due to diabetes (diabetic acidosis),
  • severe acute liver dysfunction (hepatic coma, fulminant hepatitis),
  • severe overactive thyroid (thyrotoxicosis),
  • increased needs (e.g. pregnancy and breastfeeding).

dosage

• Unless otherwise prescribed, the following dosages are recommended for the treatment of clinically and chemically confirmed deficiency states:
  • At the beginning of treatment, 1 tablet is taken up to 3 times a day, then 1/2 to 2 tablets daily with sufficient liquid.
  • Medicines containing vitamin B1 should not be taken in doses higher than those specified without medical advice.

  • There is currently no evidence of malformations or changes in the genetic structure caused by thiamine nitrate.

Miscellaneous

- Due to rapid breakdown and limited storage, vitamin B1 must be consumed in sufficient quantities daily to cover requirements.
- Foods particularly rich in vitamin B1 include brewer's yeast (15.6 mg/100 g), pork (0.9 mg/100 g), wheat bran (0.7 mg/100 g), oat flakes and pistachios (0.6 mg /100 g) and wholemeal flours (approx. 0.5 mg/100 g).
- To avoid deficiency, a daily vitamin B1 intake of between 1.3 and 1.5 mg per day for men and between 1.1 and 1.3 mg per day for women is recommended. A supplement of 0.3 mg per day is required during pregnancy and 0.5 mg per day during breastfeeding.

Vitamin B1 deficiency symptoms can occur in:
- Malnutrition and malnutrition (e.g. long-term feeding via a gastric tube, blood washing, disruption of food absorption in the intestine)
- Pathological consumption of alcohol
- Increased demand
