Field of use

• The medicine is a mineral preparation
• It is applied:
  • to prevent calcium deficiency when there is increased need (e.g. growing age, pregnancy, breastfeeding).
  • for supportive treatment of osteoporosis.

Contraindications

• The medicine must not be taken if:
  • too high calcium concentrations in the blood or urine
  • prolonged immobilization of limbs (immobilization)
  • calcium-containing kidney stones or calcification of the kidney
  • Hypersensitivity to the active ingredient or any of the other ingredients of the drug.

 

dosage

• Always take the medicine exactly as directed. Please ask your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
• The usual dose is: 1 film-coated tablet 1 - 2 times daily (corresponding to 600 - 1200 mg calcium).
• The treatment of calcium deficiency and osteoporosis must be long-term. Their duration is based on the desired therapeutic goal.
• The drug should be taken long-term. Talk to your doctor about how long you should take the medicine.
• Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have the impression that the effect of the medicine is too strong or too weak.

 

• If you take more medicine than you should
  • An overdose usually has no consequences. If symptoms occur, please contact your doctor.

 

• If you forget to take the medicine
  • Do not take a double dose if you forget to take the previous dose.

 

• If you have any further questions about using the medicine, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
  

Intake

• It is taken during or after eating.

Patient information

• Particular caution when taking the drug is required if:
  • Taking the drug increases the excretion of calcium in the urine. In the first few months after starting to take the medication, this increases the tendency for calcium salts to precipitate and, under certain circumstances, for stones to form in the kidneys and urinary bladder. This can be avoided by drinking plenty of fluids. In case of renal insufficiency, the drug should only be used with ongoing monitoring of calcium and phosphate concentrations in the blood and urine.
  • During therapy with high doses of the drug, especially if therapy with vitamin D is also carried out, there is a risk of hypercalcemia, which can result in impaired kidney function. In such patients, serum calcium levels and renal function should be monitored.
  • Only take the medicine after consulting your doctor
    • with impaired kidney function
    • if the phosphate concentration in the blood is reduced (hypophosphatemia).
  • Also ask your doctor for advice if you have a family history of calcium-containing kidney stones.

 

• Ability to drive and use machines:
  • There are no special precautions required.

Pregnancy

• Pregnancy and breast feeding period:
  • Before taking/using any medicines, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice.
  • The medicine should only be taken during pregnancy if there is a calcium deficiency. If you are pregnant, you should contact your doctor before taking the medicine.
  • The medicine should only be taken during breastfeeding if there is a calcium deficiency. If you are breast-feeding your child, you should contact your doctor before taking it.
